A little history
The bay beyond the beach
Montego Bay is the capital of St. James Parish on Jamaica’s northwest coast. The area has long been home to Jamaican communities; its colonial port history was shaped by sugar plantations and the forced labor of enslaved Africans. That history remains part of the place, alongside the creativity and resilience that shape the city today.
Now Mo Bay is a meeting point for visitors and everyday Jamaican life: music, markets, food, beaches and neighborhoods spread from the waterfront into the hills. Most resort guests never see this side of it.
